Prophecy Promotions and the Man Behind the Mountain
Paul “The Prophet” Demicoli has been an institution in the elite sports of Muay Thai, Kickboxing and Boxing in Australia over the last two decades. As now one of Australia’s most flamboyant promoters, the early days were certainly much different. Mr Demicoli started promoting his own shows in 1994 in Melbourne where he initially teamed with another local and prominent promoter John Scida. Mr Demicoli then went on to promote several Kickboxing and Muay Thai events at various venues around Melbourne’s Western Suburbs and was one of the early pioneers in the promotion of these elite sports in Australia. These also included salubrious events staged at the Macedonian Centre and Melbourne’s world class Crown Casino Show Room. The latter show in conjunction with Tarik Solak in 1999 was “The End of Millennium” Melbourne Super Show. This event gained much recognition and would also help pave the way for more immediate success.
Mr Demicoli would then rise to prominence in his own right and continue to revolutionise bybranding and marketing to a new cross-section of people and diversify in his ambition to promote new ventures. This led to the staging an Underage Event named “Elevation” at Melbourne’s Saint Albans Indoor Centre where its success would reign for nearly two years. This would be the first stage in a personal quest to provide future events for the younger generation of the sport thus maintaining its viability and guaranteeing future success.
In 2001 Paul then shifted direction north to Queensland where he immediately staged an event at the international Chandler Sleeman Sports Centre hosting the dual Main Event featuring Five Times World Champion Ian Jacobs & Triple World Champion Scott Bannan. This spectacle would also feature a young Bruce “Preacher” Macfie Vs a young Soren Monkongtong on the undercard. Both of these fighters would go on to become champions and fight around the world and make a significant name in the sport of Muay Thai. Over the coming years Mr Demicoli would go on to have staged a multitude of current, former and future World Champions on his own events.
In 2002 the very enigmatic and now master promoter would head back to Melbourne to take things up a notch by promoting “Civil War” which was a featured Fox Sports presentation staged in the state’s capital and would also become Melbourne’s very first “elbow” fight again featuring Triple World Champion Scott “The Cannon” Bannan. At the conclusion of this highly successful event, it was skies the limit for the promotions dynamo.
Along the way, Mr Demicoli would also forge his own world champion by way of Laura Skinner....a young girl Mr Demicoli identified early in her career and took all the way to the dizzying heights of becoming ISKA Female World Muay Thai Champion. Assuming the role of both manager and trainer, Demicoli made a bold and daring move (which would later become customary and a trademark of Demicoli’s success) for both parties by switching his world champion from Thai Boxing to Professional Boxing and fighting in the USA. Demicoli then negotiated a deal that would see his champion take on another female champion in Las Vegas on a prime time show staged by legendary Mr T.
Not content to just have his hand in sport, Mr Demicoli can add various musical and comedy shows around the country to his repertoire including the now world famous Fat Pizza at the Gold Coast Arts Centre and the Tivoli Theatre in Brisbane and has staged and promoted shows in most prominent venues around Australia. Mr Demicoli promoted Muay Thai Boxing regularly in the early days of the sport at The Brisbane RNA Showground’s and has become more recently notarized for his “ERUPTION” series staged at the Beenleigh Arena. Eruption has become enormous in stature and Mr Demicoli has begun to nurture the very sport he helped become socially recognised by staging “Next Generation” events aimed at the young people coming through in the sport and usually stages these events the day after a pro Eruption event to give the juniors a chance to experience the big-time.
Mr Demicoli’s pioneering feats haven’t just been here at home either. Paul created international attention in the sport of Muay Thai when he took the sport to a new country for the very first time. Vanuatu, a country that had only been introduced to the sport via television until now, would become host to Eruption Vanuatu 2009, and become the first Muay Thai event ever staged there. The event would be officially sanctioned by the WMC (World Muay Thai Council) and Mr Demicoli would receive a letter from the King of Thailand for his efforts and praised on the WMC website for his feats, by the sports world governing body.
Paul Demicoli’s total promotions now tally in the hundreds and range enormously not just in style but in calibre and spectacle. His innovation is derived from experiences from around the world and his industry knowledge the same. Having been personally invited to attend many international spectacles and travelling continuously to events in places such as the USA, Thailand, Japan, China, Malaysia, New Zealand and other neighbouring nations, it has all helped this masterful tactician derive success from his craft.
After a 10 year strong association with the WMC in the sport of Muay Thai and helping gain recognition both nationally and internationally from it’s inception in this country, Paul Demicoli now embarks on a new pioneering journey.
Having now been appointed WKBF MMA Queensland State Representative, Mr Demicoli is about to introduce a new string to his bow...FATE MMA. A cage fighting spectacle gathering global appeal and swift momentum, Mr Demicoli is venturing into unchartered waters yet again and holds no fear of uncertainty. Set to stage this international event on June 26th.......FATE MMA could be the continuation of the legacy behind one of Australia’s most talented, certainly most enigmatic and larger than life promoters...Paul Demicoli
